Aquae Urbis Romae: the Waters of the City of Rome

A topographic and archival study of the hydrological and hydraulic history of Rome. This site includes data covering approximately 3000 years - from 753 BC to the present day. The theoretical basis of the investigation is grounded on an;understanding that every element of this water history is part of an integrated system.;This system includes dynamic natural elements (hydrological) such as the Tiber River, springs, streams, marshes, floods and rainfall, as well as tectonic infrastructure elements (hydraulic) such as sewers, drains, aqueducts, baths, fountains,;wells, cisterns,;conduits, river embankments, bridges, etc. It also examines thematic subjects such as water use in industry and daily life.
